Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR – The handover and official open of the nominated Kaysone Phomvihane street with 382 meters and is 7 meters wide held in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province on 13 December 2023. The project accomplished the improvement of the B1 road immemorially to the great leadership of former President Kaysone Phomvihane – Founder of Lao People Revolutionary Party, founder of Lao People Army, creator of Lao PDR. The namely nominated Kaysone Phomvihane street is symbolic to people’s Victoria over the secret imperialistic aggressive (Indochina) war in this part of Laos country while Lane Xang Minerals Limited is a single contributor to the construction of this standardised street providing better road traffic infrastructure for the local community.

The total cost of this road construction project amounted to US$142,487 or 3,134,714,000 Kip paid from Sepon Community Trust Fund (TF) 2023. The handover ceremony was attended by esteemed guests including H.E Santiphab Phomvihane, Minister of Finance and former governor of Savankhet Province, Dr. Senesack Soulisak, Vice Governor of Savanakhet Province, accompanied central Govt. Officers, Mr. Valiya Sichanthongthip, Mayor of Vilabouly District, and other local officials, Mr. Saman Aneka, LXML Managing Director and Vice GM’s Community Stakeholder Relations, representatives from the related public sector and the contractor company, village authorities, and villagers.

The project marks a significant milestone coincides with the 20^th anniversary of successful LXML Sepon gold-copper mining operations and the 30^th anniversary of the creation of Vilabouly District. The opening of this street also commemorates the 103^rd anniversary of the birthday of former president Kaysone Phomvihane as well. The road is expected to deliver great benefit all users, especially the local villagers and community members. The project greatly demonstrates the commitment of LXML Sepon who supports infrastructure and well-being to the communities in the region and mark a positive step forward in the development of infrastructure in Savannakhet Province

Mr. Phaymany Vongsaykham, Vice Mayor of Vilabouly District, reported that “per the government's 9^th economic-social development plan and for the 8^th of Savannakhet province. The plan aligns with the resolution of the Vilabouly district party committee to prioritize infrastructure development in preparation for the 30^th-anniversary celebration of the district's success in preservation and development. The construction of this road commemorates the historical victory of the local villagers who struggle for the national liberation and developing the country’s economy under the leadership of former President Kayson Phomvihane.

Mr. Saman Aneka, Managing Director of LXML, emphasized that LXML commits to fostering sustainable development in the Vilabouly District, stating that he hopes and believes the people of Vilabouly. The company’s target is to achieve sustainable socio-economic development through the Community Development Trust Fund and the Fund for Assistance to the Disadvantaged Groups (FADG). LXML will increase its investment in exploration in the concession area to extend the life of the conceded mining expected to be more than 10 years from now on.

The Minister of Finance has also paid an official visit to the Sepon mine to witness the operation and highlight the contributions to the socio-economic financial development of Laos recognizing the important role that the mining industry plays in driving economic growth and development in the Lao PDR.

The Minister of Finance visited the gold plant to see the gold pour at the gold room and toured the underground portal of the Sepon mine project to gain insight into how the underground mining would proceed.

The Community Trust Fund project has provided numerous benefits for the local community residing in the surroundings of the Sepon mine for two decades. The funding has increased from US$96,000 in 2004 and lifted to US$750,000 per year from 2014 onward. With their increased investment and ongoing support for the local community, LXML is set to continue driving long-term, sustainable growth, and prosperity for the people of Vilabouly District and the Lao PDR.
